Fifth Grade ART

Fifth graders focus their art work  on themselves with refined skill.

North Carolina Essential Standards

PictureWill Asken in Mr. Verlin's class!


Contour Line
Students in fifth grade started with contour line drawings of their hands. They focused on the principle of design Emphasis, and also included a personal aspect to their drawing.

Abstract Objects.
Students looked at art by Mack Chagall and Georgia O'Keefe to determine what makes art abstract. Next we each selected our own subject matter and separated it into sections and altered in imaginative ways.

Ink Feathers
Students looked at the work of Tessai to analyze compositional choices.  Students created an ink and charcoal drawing of a feather that included a wide range of value. Value in art has to do with the lightness and darkness of a color. Last we created a name plate and stamped our personalized signature onto our drawing.

Experimental printmaking 
Students are drawing a face in proportions. They will later use that face to create a printing plate . Next they will select a variety of materials to create their experimental prints on.
